Hyoho Niten Ichi-Ryu

niten practice

Hyoho Niten Ichi-Ryu is the martial art created by Miyamoto Musashi, a famous Japanese swordsman from the 1500s. Niten is primarily known for its two-sword katas; a daito, or long sword, held by the right hand and a shoto, or shortsword held by the left hand. There are 6 sets of techniques in Niten:

  • Tachi Seiho - 12 kata with the longsword
  • Kodachi Seiho - 7 kata with the shortsword
  • Nito Seiho - 5 kata with both swords
  • Aikuchi roppo - 6 kata with a knife
  • Bojutsu - 20 techniques with a staff
  • Jitte to jutsu - 5 kata against a sword

Niten is taught at the Calgary Iaido Club from 8:00 to 8:30 after every class by Colin and Alex. For more information on Niten please visit www.hyoho.com.

The following is a list of jobs for the Niten Seminar that still needs volunteers. If there is a name beside the job that means someone has volunteered for that job, however we could always use more help, so if you feel like helping out please send Alex an e-mail.

  • A shuttle (maybe two) to and from the University before and after training - Keith
  • Someone to organize lunch on Saturday - Colin
  • Someone to organize lunch on Sunday - Colin
  • Someone to organize the barbecue on Saturday - Sohail

More jobs may come up later, so please stay tuned.
