For Ikkyu and Shodan the practitioner must demonstrate 5 ZenKenIai kata of their choice (Jiyu waza). For Nidan and above the Iaidoka must demonstrate 1 Koryu kata of their choice followed by 4 kata selected by the grading panel (Shite waza).

The Unwritten Rule:The first kata demonstrated by the Iaidoka must be Ipponme Mae unless otherwise directed. Likewise, in most cases, the first Koryu kata demonstrated should be the first form of the first set of one’s Koryu, in our case, Shohatsuto.
